(Matthew 10:29) SPARROW

Matthew 10:29

Are not two little sparrows sold for a penny? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s consent and notice

SPARROW

WHEN I WAS A YOUNG MAN
I WROTE A POEM
ABOUT A SPARROW DYING
IN THE GUTTER OF A BUSY STREET

I SUBMITTED IT
I RECEIVED A REJECTION SLIP

A COUPLE MORE
AND I CAN PAPER MY BEDROOM

ANYWAY
THE REJECTION SAID

SHOULD WE WORRY
ABOUT THE DEATH
OF ONE SPARROW

THIS WAS AFTER THE WAR
WHEN DEATH WAS CHEAP

IT ALWAYS BOTHERED ME
NOT THE REJECTION
BUT THE REASON

THE GOSPEL SAYS
A BIRD BOUGHT FOR A PENNY
IS NO LESS VALUABLE
THAN AN EAGLE

BOTH ARE EQUAL IN GOD’S SIGHT
AND NEITHER CAN DIE
WITHOUT HIS CONSENT

IF WE CARE FOR THE LITTLE THINGS
IN THIS WORLD

WILL WE NOT DO BETTER
IN THE BIGGER THINGS

SHOULD WE NOT HAVE RESPECT FOR LIFE
NO MATTER HOW INSIGNIFICANT IN OUR EYES

IF GOD CARES FOR IT
WHY NOT US

AN OCTOBER THOUGHT
 MAYBE
BUT ONE WORTH
OUR CONSIDERATION

FRANK A VOLLMER
