what caught my eye
was the way her feet
would show
then disappear
under her robe
like timid mice
but what really caught my eye
as she progressed to the altar
to light the candle
this little altar girl
had sparkles
on her sandals

how appropriates

parkles on her sandals

how beautiful the feet
of god’s messengers
for she wasparticipating
in the ritual
that brought god to us
in word and sacrament
heavy thoughts
for a little girl
but such
is the kingdom of heaven
