she tends things
she cares for things
like seed for the finches
juice for the hummingbirds
suet for those who will eat it
food for the cat
cleaning his toilet
when he’s done

she tends the plants around the house
planting new ones
pruning the old ones
watering both

she manages the inside
like an artist
with almost seasonal scenery

 finally
she cares for me
so i can sit
at the gates of the city
proud

she can sit content
that the many things
she has been given
she has handled well
