(Matthew 5:13-20) A CANDLE

OUT OF ALL THE LONELINESS OF ETERNITY

GOD CREATED ME

OUT OF TIMELESS HOURS

AND DAYLESS YEARS

FULL KNOWN AT BIRTH WAS EVERY FAULT

YET HE BORN ME STILL

HOW GREAT A LOVE

TO FORGIVE RIGHT FROM THE START

ALL OUTRAGEOUS ACTION

HOW GREAT A LOVE

WHO HAVING SET ME SAIL

SPENDS ALL MY LIFE

AS PILOT TO THE TRIP

BUT THEN IF I AM LOVED BY ANOTHER HUMAN

HOW LIKE UNTO A GOD THEY ARE

THE ONE WHO LOVES ME

WHO GIVES ME IMPORTANCE FAR BEYOND MY WORTH

WHO CALLS ME OUT OF DARKNESS AND MAKES ME GLOW

WHO INTRUDES INTO MY TIME AND GIVES IT MEANING

WHO LOVES ME

KNOWING MY DEFECTS OR PRESUMES THEM

AND LOVES ME STILL

IF I WERE TO MAKE A MONUMENT TO LOVE

NO MARBLE WOULD I USE

BUT I’D LIGHT A CANDLE IN A LONELY PLACE

WHERE MEN WALK SULLEN AND AFRAID

AND SEE THE SHADOWS BECOME LESS FEARFUL

FEEL THE NIGHT BECOME LESS GRIM

SEE A SMILE UPON THE WALKERS

FEEL GOD’S PRESENCE HOVERING IN
