MILKWEED (Luke 20:27-38)




SUMMER DAY AND DOORS WERE OPEN

STREET NOISE AND CHILDREN LAUGHING

SCHOOLYARD BESIDE THE CHURCH

FUNERAL IN PROGRESS

FRIENDS AND RELATIVES GROUPED IN SORROW

CASKET WITH SIX CANDLES STANDING GUARD

THRU THE DOOR BY MISCHIEF WIND IMPORTED

MILKWEED SEED WITH WHITE WINGED FAIRY FLIGHT

TO LAND UPON THE CASKET DULLY GLEAMING

A RESURRECTION SYMBOL

BRUSHED OFF BY ADULT TO CAPTURE YOUNG CHILD'S FANCY

WHO BREATHES ON IT TO GIVE IT NEW BORN FLIGHT

AND UP IT SOARS TO PLAY IN DUSTY SUNLIGHT

RAINBOW COLORED BY HOLY WINDOWS STAINED

CHILD WATCHED

FORGETFUL OF HIS SORROW

TILL SERVICE WAS DONE

. CASKET SLOWLY WHEELED OUT

WITH FAMILY FOLLOWING

LEAVING THE MILKWEED DANCING IN THE SUN
